UNMASKED: Gerbil Getaway Driver ... third suspect revealed ... Victor Gallagher 'helped killers flee'
The Scottish Sun can today reveal the third suspected member of the Kevin 'Gerbil' Carroll murder squad - who police believe was the assassins' getaway driver.
Victor Gallagher, 39, is thought to have been at the wheel of the motor for the underworld execution outside an Asda supermarket.
Gunman Billy Paterson - part of the notorious Lyons crime gang - was recently convicted of the shooting and caged for at least 22 years.
But Gallagher has not faced any charges over the gangland slaying in Robroyston, Glasgow, in 2010.
One senior police source said: "Everything pointed towards Gallagher being involved in some way but he has managed to stay under the radar.
"It's believed that Gallagher did not shoot Carroll but it was claimed he was the driver of the VW Golf which took the two Lyons gang gunmen to and from Asda."
The murder was the culmination of a decade-long war between the Lyons and Daniel gangs.
Paterson's friend Ross Monaghan, 33, was also accused of the killing but his trial collapsed in 2012.
During the case, he lodged a special defence blaming eight other people for the murder including Gallagher and Paterson.
Part of the evidence at Paterson's trial in May focused on a mobile phone which experts placed in or near the car park where Carroll was shot.
It was then tracked leaving the area and travelling to Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, where the handguns used in the killing were found dumped.
Police said the phone belonged to Paterson. But the killer's lawyer Des Finnieston tried to shift the blame to Gallagher claiming the mobile could have been his instead.
Gallagher is the nephew of Josephine Lyons, 57, who is married to crime clan boss Eddie Lyons Snr, 57.
We tracked him down to a flat in Cumbernauld, owned by Liam Boyle, 35, who is an associate of Lyons' sons Eddie Jnr, 36, and Steven, 34.
One source said: "Gallagher is originally from Milton in Glasgow but moved out to Cumbernauld around the same time as the Lyons.
"He's been a heavy drug user and been in and out of prison over the years. He's been linked to car crime and shootings.
"Despite his drug use, he is capable to keeping it together.
"He's a few years older than the Lyons boys and their pals which gave him some influence when they were younger."
